To celebrate the release of CRES Forum’s newest white paper, “Growing an Industry for Clean Hydrogen,” our team hosted a briefing and networking event, “Will Hydrogen Have its Moment?,” to convene industry leaders, congressional staff and key stakeholders to discuss the potential of hydrogen to reduce global emissions, as well as the challenges and opportunities for clean hydrogen project developers.
To kick off the event, Professional Staff Member for Ranking Member Shelley Moore Capito on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Baxter Carr provided opening remarks. Since the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Baxter has led the Senator’s hydrogen efforts and has worked closely with the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub (ARCH2).
As part of the briefing, CRES Forum Senior Policy Manager and white paper author Rebecca Lorenzen moderated a panel discussion with Jackie Carney of Constellation Energy, Neeraj Bhat of AES Clean Energy, Morgan Crabtree of ExxonMobil and Tommy Gerrity of Ørsted.
A key topic of discussion was the U.S. Treasury’s 45V guidance and its impact on stakeholder expectations and plans. Panelists highlighted hydrogen’s role in reducing emissions in sectors like steelmaking, long-haul trucking, aviation and power generation, as well as the recent surge in private investment.
Following the panel discussion, attendees had the chance to network and exchange ideas about hydrogen’s potential to decarbonize the economy.
