Amazon recently released its 2023 Sustainability Report, which outlines their dedication to carbon-free energy and showcases U.S. industry leadership in clean energy.
The report announces that Amazon achieved a 3 percent decrease in absolute carbon emissions and a 13 percent decrease in carbon intensity from 2022, reaching its goal to power global operations with 100 percent renewable energy seven years ahead of their 2030 target.
This was achieved by listening to customer demand, embracing innovation and adopting an all-of-the-above energy approach.
Amazon’s Chief Sustainability Officer Kara Hurst states, “We will continue to lead and invest in creating carbon-free energy around the world at scale, including through solar, wind, nuclear, and other emerging energy technologies. Our progress toward a net-zero carbon business will not be linear, and each year as our various businesses grow and evolve, we will produce different results.”
Amazon’s 2023 Sustainability Report exemplifies how American innovation can lower global emissions and leave our planet better than we found it. CRES Forum congratulates Amazon on their achievements, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate on these efforts.
