Carla Tully is Co-Founder and CEO of Earthrise Energy and chair of its Board of Directors. Carla co-founded Earthrise Energy in 2019 to provide for a more equitable energy transition that accelerates the decarbonization of the grid while ensuring its reliability. She brings to her role as CEO more than 20 years of international experience in the energy industry and a strong track record of leading diverse organizations and driving business growth.
Before founding Earthrise, Carla served as Executive Vice President & Managing Director of Renewable Energy at MAP Energy, a private equity firm with $2.4 billion in assets under management that included a renewable energy development pipeline of more than 35 GW. Carla managed and was responsible for scaling MAP’s renewable energy business, including raising its first all-renewable energy fund. She served as Chair of the new fund’s Investment Committee and portfolio company board member.
Carla gained significant operational management experience working at The AES Corporation, one of the world’s leading power companies. There she held several senior leadership positions including President of AES UK & Ireland, where she managed P&L responsibility for more than £200M revenue and 1.3 GW of generating capacity. Under her leadership, the company pioneered the first-in-market energy storage project that helped establish the protocols for Ireland’s energy storage market. Before that role, she developed and implemented investment and capital allocation strategies to execute AES’ corporate strategy as Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Investment. She also served as Chief of Staff for Global Utilities, advising on and developing growth, risk and operation strategies for AES’s 20 GW utility businesses in the US, Europe, Latin America, and Africa.
Earlier in her career, Carla worked at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), investing in sustainable energy in Latin America and the Caribbean, and as a project finance lender for ABB Structured Finance.
Carla holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations and economics from the University of Southern California, an MBA from Columbia Business School, and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. She is a member of the Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Forum Board of Directors.
