Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Forum today launched the first installment in a new series of white papers examining the most critical climate and clean energy issues. The paper, titled “Why U.S. Climate Policy Must Focus on Addressing Global Emissions,” kicks off the “Understanding the Facts” series, which is intended to help form a strong foundation for conservative thinking around climate and clean energy solutions.
“To address the world’s ever-changing climate and make a lasting difference, we need commonsense policy solutions focused on the bigger picture,” said Heather Reams, President of CRES Forum. “Throughout this exciting series, CRES Forum takes a deep dive into some of the most pressing climate and energy issues facing policy makers today. Our hope is that by approaching these challenges thoughtfully, from a conservative perspective, we can help lawmakers and the public better understand what’s at stake and how to move forward with actionable solutions that are mindful of our environment and our economy.”
“This paper is our first installment because U.S. policy that fails to reduce global emissions will only reduce U.S. competitiveness without any environmental benefit,” said George David Banks, Senior Policy Fellow at CRES Forum and a primary author for the series. “If there is any hope in addressing global climate change, U.S. policymakers must acknowledge the facts as they are today – not as they were in 1990.”
Future installments of the “Understanding the Facts” series will tackle topics including: the climate benefits of using U.S. fossil fuels, critical minerals and national security, American energy innovation, manufacturing and industrial competitiveness, the power sector and consumer costs, permitting modernization and reform, agriculture and natural solutions, and transportation.
The issues and approaches highlighted in this white papers series are rooted in CRES Forum’s Conservative Climate Policy Directives. These directives were developed to help policymakers and the public better understand how policies can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while promoting U.S. prosperity and fostering economic growth for generations to come.
The white papers are the first published product of the CRES Forum Policy Fellowship program, which launched in 2021. Current CRES Forum Policy Fellows include former staff leads of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, George David Banks and Marty Hall.
