Recap: CRES Academy’s Energy Tax Policy 101 Session

Each year, CRES Forum launches a series of events to educate Republican staff focused on climate and energy challenges, technology, conservative policy solutions, and legislative initiatives. The first CRES Academy session of 2025, Energy Tax Policy 101: Powering America’s Energy Future, provided attendees with the opportunity to learn about the history and impactful role of federal energy tax credits.

Michael Yancey, Director of Congressional Policy at CRES, opened the session with welcoming remarks, emphasizing the critical role of energy tax policy in ensuring America remains competitive in a rapidly evolving global energy economy.

CRES Vice President of Policy and Advocacy Christina Baworowsky  then moderated a panel discussion featuring Greg Louer of Holland & Knight, Kelley Hudak of the American Petroleum Institute (API), Paul Gutierrez of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and Larry Schafer of Advanced Biofuels Association (ABFA).

The panelists illustrated how these clean energy tax credits, when implemented effectively, drive job creation, support domestic energy production and innovation, as well as strengthen American energy dominance. The experts went on to emphasize that our nation’s growing demand for energy—spurred by the expansion of data centers and the increasing electrification of industries—requires policy that can unleash American energy production and maintain America’s leadership in the global energy sector. Federal clean energy tax credits, the panelist explained, are a critical part of this equation.

Stay tuned for our upcoming CRES Academy sessions where top industry voices and senior policymakers will dive deeper and provide attendees with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the complex landscape of energy tax policy and advocate for an America-first energy strategy.
